About North American Friends Supporting Aussie Bushfire Victims

“I am an Aussie living permanently in the US (Oakland) and as you can understand I am so distressed with all that has been happening in Australia. After some bad bushfires in Victoria 8 years ago I got together a few people and we made 4 or 5 quilts for some of the victims. The responses we got from several of the people was so heartwarming. Feeling so powerless and yes - homesick- with the devastation that is happening, I am trying to get together folks who might be interested in helping me with this. Last weekend I made this top piece and it would be wonderful if I could get some help in basting it together or making more quilts or anything really. I have two more quilts that I’m working on. If you’re interested I would love to hear from you.

Julie”

Stitch Signal Thursday, January 30, 2020

We are excited to announce this very special project! As many of you know, the whole reason this group started was to help the animals of the Australian bushfires, but as with our CA wildfires, there are humans affected by these fires as well. I know many of you still want to help Australia so here’s a wonderful opportunity to share your talents and love with someone who has been affected by these horrible fires. We’re partnering up with Julie Piper and North American Friends Supporting Aussie Bushfire Victims. Julie is an Aussie living in the US who messaged us a week ago with the following so of course we wanted to share this special Stitch Signal with all of you to see how this amazing group of crafters can help.

Since Julie has friends and family in Australia, she will make sure that these quilts make it to people in need. If you are in the East Bay/near Oakland and want to meet up with Julie to sew together, please be sure to reach out to her or comment and she’ll get in touch.

Please use the Pledge Form (https://forms.gle/YFbeMza1ef73X4o3A) to pledge how many quilts you will make. Once your quilts are done, please go back and update the form saying your items are complete. Once completed items are ready, you will receive an email with instructions on where to send your items.

Deadline: August 15

Patterns:

  • Any pattern, no restrictions, think of what you would like to receive if you had lost everything.
  • Sizes: Crib, Toddler Bed, Twin, Full or Queen size

Other Instructions:

  • It would be incredibly special if you would include a nice message on the back of the quilt with a permanent fabric pen, and even include your email address. In order to respect everyone’s beliefs, we ask that the messages remain non-religious.
  • Include a small note or tag with the type of material and washing instructions.
